What we preserve
Tokyo Golf Club was founded in 1914 as the first Japanese-organised golf club in the country — Kobe Golf Club (1903) preceded it but was founded by British residents. The original Komazawa course was absorbed by Tokyo's urban expansion in the 1930s, and the club relocated to its current site in Sayama, Saitama. The Sayama layout was opened in 1940 and substantially redesigned by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner in 2013–2015, restoring strategic bunkering and green complexes in the spirit of the pre-war classical era. Tokyo Golf Club has hosted multiple Japan Open Championships and remains one of the most exclusive clubs in the country.
