Nostalgic yet new, SOWAKA embodies the spirit of the renowned Sukiya architectural style in Kyoto's historic Gion district — a small luxury hotel that opened on 25 March 2019 with 11 rooms in the main building and 12 in the Annex. Nestled in Gion–Higashiyama at Kiyoicho 480, Higashiyama-ku, it is a serene retreat just steps from Yasaka Shrine and charming lantern-lit alleyways, with iconic sites like Kodaiji and Kiyomizu Temples a 6–15 minute stroll away. It sits 15 minutes by taxi from Kyoto Station and a 10-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Line.
