What we preserve
Kobe Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Japan, founded in 1903 atop Mount Rokko by the Scottish tea merchant Arthur Hesketh Groom. Groom and his fellow British residents built a four-hole course at Groom's mountain villa, expanded it to nine holes the following year, and registered the club formally in 1903 — sixteen years before any other Japanese club. The 18-hole mountaintop routing remains in much the same form today, with views over Osaka Bay from the summit holes. Member-only, though visiting members of recognised international clubs can sometimes arrange play through introduction.
